How to add Gift Aid to your Donations for UK Taxpayers

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows donations given to charity (in this case, R.C. Archdiocese of Southwark) to be tax effective.  As soon as you give your permission, by completing our Gift Aid Declaration (GAD) form, we can claim the tax back on your donation.

You qualify for Gift Aid if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a UK taxpayer

  • You you pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donations in the tax year

For every £1 you give, your parish will get back an additional 25p from HMRC. This comes from the taxes you have already paid so will not cost you any extra.

If you choose to make a donation via Dona – using either the online Donate with Dona button or the onsite Digital Donation Plates –  and would like to add Gift Aid:

  • You do not need to complete our parish Gift Aid Declaration (GAD) form.

  • Dona will take you through a simple online process to sign a Gift Aid Declaration via their system.

  • You will be asked to enter your name, postcode and house name/number.

  • Once you have registered your payment card for Gift Aid once, Dona will automatically Gift Aid any future donations you make using that same payment card.

NB: Even if you have previously donated by other means and have already signed a parish GAD form, you will still need to sign up for Gift Aid on the Dona system.

If you are making donations via Cash in the collection basket, Bank Transfer, Standing Order or Cheque, and would like to join the Gift Aid Scheme:

  • You must complete a Gift Aid Declaration (GAD) form and return it to the parish – form downloadable here: GAD -pdf

For Bank Transfer/Standing Order:

  • Your contributions can be of any amount and frequency,

  • Your contributions must be easily identified as coming from you; please be sure to add your initial & surname as reference.

  • The parish account details are in the Standing Order form downloadable here: Standing Order Form.pdf

If you prefer to make cash donations in the weekly collection basket, once we have received your completed GAD form we will supply you with a set of numbered envelopes for you to use.

If you have any questions about Gift Aid please contact our parish Gift Aid Coordinator, Teresa Chance: email: kewaccounts@rcaos.org.uk.  Please remember to notify the Parish if you:

  • change your name or home address

  • no longer pay sufficient Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax

  • want to cancel your Declaration.
